The camel or the dromedary is the ideal means of transport to travel the desert. It is also the one used by the nomadic tribes. It is the animals of choice for whoever wishes to discover the immensity of the Moroccan Desert, in optimal conditions, without noise, smoothly.
Some precautions are necessary. When the camel or dromedary stands up, it leans forward and backward. The passenger, comfortably installed on a leather saddle, must hold firmly to the reins. Otherwise, beware of falling. Then, you just have to let yourself be carried by the rhythmic and quiet swing of the animal. In order not to have a sore back after a day on the back of a camel or dromedary, it is important to avoid tensing up. However, as soon as the camel or dromedary adopts its cruising rhythm, its passenger is reassured and can enjoy the joys of hiking in the desert.
Other precautions must be taken before starting a camel or dromedary ride. First of all, it is necessary to protect oneself from the sun and the wind which can rise unexpectedly. A hat or a turban around the head, which leaves only the eyes visible, are strongly recommended. Don’t forget sun cream, sunglasses and warm clothing because the nights in the desert are very cold and of course it is necessary to hydrate regularly.
There are two types of trekking in the desert with camels and dromedaries: the meharee (the dromedaries carry the luggage and others are intended to accommodate the passengers) and the camel trekking. In this case, the animals are only used to carry the luggage and goods, the participants move on foot.
